Resurrected Relics Breakfast Run - 2 October 2011

A big thank you to those members that attended the car run and BBQ breakfast on Sunday, 2 October 2011.  We all met at the Club Headquarters and then took to the road in a convoy travelling through Narangba, Deception Bay, Rothwell, Redcliffe foreshore and out onto the highway for a scheduled stop at Andrew's place for a BBQ breakfast and some racing!  A special thanks to Matt and Lee-Ann for arranging the set up for the breakfast and to Andrew Bartholomew and his team of helpers for letting us attend at his world class slot car track.  We all had fun racing the slot cars in the heats and fierce finals competition.  The slot car racing results were (drum roll):

First Place:                Matt James
Second Place:          Robert Hardacre
Third Place:               Paul Saunders
Fourth Place:            Shane Delaforce
Fifth Place:                Hawk Allerby
Sixth Place:               Lee-Ann James
Seventh Place:         Josh Hardacre / Jack Fricker
Eighth Place:            Ray Farmer
Ninth Place:              Brodie Delaforce
Tenth Place:              Jannine Saunders
Lucky last:                 Suzy Schuh

Fastest lap went to Matt James with a sizzling time of 6.500 seconds.

Breakfast Run, Sunday - 2 October 2011

There will be a Club Run on Sunday, 2nd October 2011.  This will have a different twist to it.  Following the run, we will be doing some racing – slot car racing!

We will be visiting the home of Andrew Bartholomew and using his home made personal track, which is world class. Andrew competes all around the world racing slot cars and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this sport. Even if you are not into slot car racing you are sure to have a great time!

We will be meeting at Californian Image at 7.30 am on Sunday the 2nd of October. We will have a run, and then end up at Andrew's home in Narangba for our usual BBQ breakfast.  For those of you want to go slot car racing please pay Andrew (direct) $5.00, which includes the use of a car - great value for money!

Kindly email our Events Co-ordinator Suzy if you are able to come along as we need to know numbers for catering purposes please for the BBQ breakfast by Thursday, 29 September 2011.

We can also talk about a Club representation at the Rocktober Festival set for October 29th - 30th Car Show sponsored by Californian Image (invitation details are below).

Resurrected Relics Breakfast Run - August 21st 2011

Despite a gloomy overcast day a large number of members gathered at Californian Image at 7:30am. No rain but a cold wind saw us rugged up and glad of closed cabs and heaters (if you had one), not one sole turned up riding a motorcycle for this one! Shane led us out of the Cal Image parking lot and we rolled up the freeway to the Big Fish turn off. We had great vision of our line of cars up the hill and on the straights leading out to Toorbul and Donnybrook. Lots of looks and waves from passing motorists and people in their yards as the procession drove by.
We soon arrived at the sea side park and it was even colder here with the wind gusting in off the ocean. The gas bbq’s were fired up and some of the guys fried the bacon, sausages and eggs. 30 people enjoyed a great meal, all paid for by the club, and a social morning. As the weather appeared to be worsening, Shane wisely called us together for a brief chat about the day and our upcoming car show at the ROCKTOBER FESTIVAL to be held at Old Beenleigh Town on Saturday October 29th. We walked to the cars and as we started up the motors the rain came down! We had an incident free run back up the highway despite the very wet conditions. Thanks to all who attended, remember this is your club and it gives back to you at every opportunity, with days like this.

Relic Riders Lunch Cruise - July 30th 2011
T
The Relic Riders branch of the club organised a combined ride or drive cruise from Californian Image to Beenleigh for lunch on Saturday morning, July 16th. Unfortunately wet weather forced a late cancellation of this event. It was rescheduled for two weeks later. We met at Cal Image at 10:30 for coffee and a chat. Cindy had the bargain tables out with some great deals on offer. Poor Dave called in to see us off; he was a victim of the flu. A small number of cars and bikes set off at 11am for a leisurely cruise down the M1 Freeway, Gateway Arterial and Gold Coast Freeway to a fuel stop at the Logan Hyper Dome Caltex, after a slight detour as the Road Captain took the wrong exit, one too soon!
We refuelled and met some southern members for the short run to Beenleigh and Exit 35 which drops us over the freeway and railway right beside the Old Beenleigh Town Historic Village. We parked on the lawn beside the pond and directly in front of the old Railway Station Cafe. Our hostess, Michelle and her staff, served up hot coffees and great tasting, large serves of well priced food. After a very relaxed lunch and chat we rolled out bound for a visit to the new Springwood Harley Davidson Dealership. The Gasoline Alley HD Dealership is large and spacious, situated on the service road beside the freeway. After a short browse we split up with Andrew & Trish leading out the southern members and the north side crew rolling back up the freeway with members peeling off at various exits along the way. Thanks to all who came along and enjoyed the day.

Lakeside Report

Hi Relics,

Well what a great day at Lakeside!  We had a terrific representation and the Club took out 2 well deserved awards – Best Represented and Best Club Display.  This was quite an achievement for the Club, taking on the likes of the Corvette Club, Eliminators, Mustang etc.  I am not sure how many cars we had there, as it was hard to know where they started and finished!  But we estimated around 40 cars (including a few that were for sale).  So all in all a fantastic turnout.  We had several people comment how well the Club was represented.  The Relics track time was great with very few Members hanging around for the 2.45 session and we had 6 – 8 cars with the track to ourselves – awesome!  How cool was it to be able to put the foot down with no red and blue flashing lights behind you.
Our only casualty of the day was our Club President Shane!  A 20c fuse sidelined him at the end of the main straight.  Thanks to Dave Williams (tuff blue 67 Camaro) for helping out with a tilt tray back to the pits.   Many thanks to the Members who helped with set up and clean up.  You know who you are and we certainly do appreciate your efforts.

Hey Relics,

This is a final reminder for Lakeside on Sunday:  Gates open at 7 am - Please wear a Club Shirt or else you will have to pay for your lunch (new members are exempt if they do not have a shirt).  To date, we have zero volunteers to help with clean up, so we hope there will be some willing helpers to assist on the day.  Prize for best Club Decorated car so get the wax on wax off going and lets win that prize! We look forwarding to seeing you all there!

Kind regards,
Shane, Cindy and Dave

3 July 2011 - Lakeside American Day
Preparations have just begun for the next big Lakeside American day, to be held on Sunday July 3, 2011

The Lakeside American Day is coming!  So keep Sunday, 3 July 2011 free.  The day will be of identical format to the Thanksgiving at Lakeside event, which worked very well.   We anticipate that all of the clubs (18) will be involved again, and the assumption is that they will want the same parking spaces and club cruise arrangements. Please advise if you would like to alter any of these for your club.  Entry fee will be the same - $10 for adults, kids under 12 free.  Flyers are being produced and distribution will commence in April. Club cruises will increase slightly to $220 each. As per last time, please send the cheque (payable to QR Operations P/L) to Queensland Raceways, All American Day, PO Box 100, Amberley, Qld 4306. Windscreen sticker dots will be used again, with the same colour allocated to each club. These will be issued on the day. You are welcome to trade, sell, fund-raise etc. using these.  We are planning to rotate the club cruise allocations from the Thanksgiving meeting, so that each club gets one of the morning slots over the next couple of events.   A PA System has been purchased for the site, and is presently being installed. 87.6FM will also be working with the same commentary.  A one hour slot is still allocated for the tri-carthlon, although the event is likely to take on a different form. The popular front drag will remain, and we are looking at rearranging the other activities to reduce congestion and bring them closer to the popular spectator areas. As the pre-entry arrangement wasn't well utilised at the last event, we will revert to pay on the day, at the Control Tower. Price will still be $20, and you'll do two complete circuits of the track for this.  Traders are welcome again, for the unchanged flat fee including two entry tickets. A separate promotion will be going out to them, but any you know can be advised too. Clubs are welcome to sell their merchandise from their areas, as well as bringing a BBQ etc.  Trophies are a bit of a question mark - the people's choice wasn't well supported last time, and it seems most people were keen to just cruise and relax, rather than have a formal car show as such. Finding judges is another issue. Any feedback from your club on this would be appreciated.
Proposed Timetable:
7.30 am - Gates Open
8.45 am - Cruise briefing and welcome
9.00-9.30 am - Early Bird Cruise
9.45-10.30 am - Club Cruises
10.30-11.30 am - Tricarthlon competitive event
11.45 am -12 30 pm - Major Cruise Session
12.30 pm 1.30 pm - Lunch Break
1.30-3.00 pm - Club Cruises
3.00-3.30 pm - Late Cruise
3.30 pm - End of Day
The next update will be issued after Easter.  Lakeside is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, with 4 major historic racing events to mark the anniversary. Details of these can be seen at http://www.qldraceways.com.au/main.php?menu=qrl01. Some of these days may be of interest for your members or for a club run.
In other news, Queensland Raceways are considering having an Australian themed day on Father's Day, Sunday September 4. Format would be similar to one of our American days. Some Australian car owners, clubs or related businesses are required to get this proposal moving.

3 June - 13 June 2011 - Cooly Rocks On (previously Wintersun)
Coolangatta and Tweed Heads

The Cooly Rocks (previously WinterSun) Event is on from 3 - 13 June 2011 at Coolangatta and Tweed Heads.  The Club President will be at the Festival on 10 – 12 June 2011.  Club Members are invited to view the Friday night Cruise from 6.00 pm on Shane and Cindy’s balcony for the Cooly Rocks On Festival.  The venue will be at the Calypso Resort, and their unit faces Marine Parade.  Bring your own drinks and snacks.  Should you need to contact Shane his mobile number is: 0414 373 217. Program and tickets for the Event can be located at:  http://www.coolyrockson.com/program---tickets.html

We look forward to you joining us for this event!

Sunday, 15 May 2011 - Maclean's Bridge Event at Lakeside

This Sunday, 15th May 2011 there is the Maclean’s Bridge Event at Lakeside.  While this is not a Club Activity per se, many members will be there.  So we are happy to sanction it as a Club Event for those of you on Club registration. Details of the event are below. Major Sports Car and Classic Car Festival - 15 May 2011.  In case you’re not aware of the changes to Maclean’s Bridge display for 2011:
  • The event is set for the 15th of May 2011.
  • NOT Tully Park. It will be at the Lakeside Raceway.
  • For 2011, it will be as known as Maclean’s Bridge at Lakeside.
  • There will be a wider range of activities.
We are working to make the day, the 36th annual event, even more entertaining for the owners and drivers of sports cars and related classics without losing the sense of the sports car display day. Many of the new activities are still in the planning stage, and will evolve as we get closer to 15/05/11. Here are a few ideas we are currently pursuing to add to the day:
  • A Concours d’Elegance that owners choose to be in. The ten finalists will be escorted around the race track as a Circuit d’Elegance, which we believe is a unique Concours feature. (We are working on having an escort of note. We’ll keep you informed on the website).
  • A Restoration Theatre. We plan to invite several restoration trade specialists to provide a demonstration of an aspect of their work. When a timetable for this is complete it will be featured on the website. (If you are one of these specialists –-mechanical or otherwise — and you are interested in displaying your skills, contact us.)
  • A Kid’s Corner. Something simple and inexpensive for the family that comes to the day together.
  • Objective judging for all awards (or as near as we can get to it). For the Concourse d”Elegance we are approaching external but informed judges. For all other awards we plan to ask for a nominee from each of the major clubs to join a judges’ panel. Careful allocation will attempt to minimise potential conflicts of interest. Volunteers who have the knowledge and experience and would enjoy being in this panel, please contact us.
  • Track time for those that want it. This will take place after the display cars move off the track. Lakeside Raceway will be offering this as a opportunity for interested drivers (no additional charge). This will be a photo opportunity not to be missed.
  • A Sports and Classics Auction. It will take place after the display presentations. Pickles Auctions will be conducting it. If you have any car that you think you’ll be selling next year, even if a ‘project’ or ‘work in progress’, or any significant memorabilia, hold for 15 may 2011 and be part of the inaugural Sports and Classic Auction at Lakeside. There’ll be more details on this soon.
  • Rallies to convoy cars to Lakeside. The Rallies will have priority entry at the gates. (We are looking for volunteers to organise assembly points – i.e. clubs with the ability to assemble a significant group of sports and classic cars and escort them to Lakeside.) Details are to come, but we anticipate rally regalia of souvenir quality for all involved cars. Please contact us if you can help.

Resurrected Relics April Ride 2011 - by the Relic Riders
The Relic Riders is a small group of motorcycle enthusiasts, mostly owners of USA cars and members of the Resurrected Relics Car Club. This club was founded in 2000 by club President and managing director of Californian Image, Shane Delaforce. He and wife Cindy run a USA to Australia Freight Company specializing in cars, parts and motorcycle importing, based at Narangba on Brisbane’s north side.  Shane owns several Harleys himself and thought it would be fun to organize a ride for customers, friends and car club members as time permits. The first ride took place in November 2010, then wet weather and floods delayed the next one till April 2011. Finally the weather God’s smiled as the day was a perfect Autumn Saturday after yet another wet week.Twenty five motorcycles arrived at Cal Image to have a coffee, a chat and to pick up some pre ride bargains. A wide variety of machines turned up for this one including several from a local restored bike club with a 1942 WL HD, a 1947 HD Knuckle, a 1948 HD Panhead, a 1944 Indian Model 344 Chief and a 1947 Indian Chief.  Two other early models present were a 1970 Triumph 650 Trophy and a 70’s Honda 750 Four. A Honda Shadow and a Suzuki sports bike kept the rest of the riders on Harleys and a lone Big Dog chopper company. The ride took scenic back roads past the North Pine Dam to almost Samford, and then turned to Dayboro where we stopped at the local Bakery for a smoko break. We left Dayboro and rode up over Mount Mee being held up at a few sets of road works traffic lights where land slips were being repaired. The group passed through Daguilar, Wamuran and wound its way back behind Caboolture on Old North Road and Oakey Flat Road to stop at a famous north side pub for lunch and a goodbye stop. Shane drew the ride raffle and the winner, Pete Delaney, a long time Hot Rodder and Harley Man won the Year’s Subscription to QLD Street Car Magazine.

Saturday 9 April 2011

Hi Relics,
The next Club Activity will be combined with a Show at Californian Image USA on Saturday April 9th.  The Californian Image Show 'n' Shine will be from 10 am until 1.00 pm at Unit 8, 1 Business Drive, Narangba  Qld  4504.  Following that, there will be a Resurrected Relics Poker run.  This Run is going to be open to ANYONE – friends, other Clubs etc.  So get the word out!  It will cost $10/hand to enter.

We would also like 10 volunteers to man the 5 card stations – 2 per station.  So if you are willing to help, let Shane or me know please.

The updated web site is almost ready to launch – just a few more days.  The web will become the main place for communications, payment of dues, etc.  It will be worth the wait.  Suzy has done a great job at getting us all revamped and caught up.

Cheers,
